Diablo 3 - A Closer Look

in Game

Diablo III by Blizzard Entertainment has been one of the most talked about video games of the year. MMO (massively multiplayer online) games come out every month it seems but Diablo 3 has been a game that fans have been looking forward to for an incredible 12 years. Don't think it's true? Sales say differently. The game became Amazon's most pre-ordered PC game of all time and once the game released it earned the title of fasting selling PC game ever, too, with over 3.5 million copies sold just 24 hours after it's launch.

Diablo 3 somewhat takes off where the last game left but the time frame is 20 years after Diablo 2. You're throw into Sanctuary, the mysterious dark world that all Diablo fans have come to love. As usual you must work your way through hordes of enemies consisting of gruesome demons and other dark creatures to save the world.

The game plays much like any other MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) with the exception that much emphasis is put on the mouse rather than the keyboard. To play in co-op mode you must have a Battle.net account to connect with others online to play. Diablo 3 is very much like its predecessors with randomly created levels and enemies although there are the occasional static levels throw in the mix, too. One thing that's different is that instead of having to pick up gold by hand you simply need to come in contact with it.

As introduced in Diablo II, Diablo 3 also has a hardcore mode. In this gameplay type you must first reach level 10 then you can create a unique hardcore based character. The difference between this character and a regular character is the fact that if you die, you die.
There's no coming back. If you die in the game you can never play the game with that character again. They are capable of using the chat features and show up on the game leaderboards but can't be used for play.

Followers are back in Diablo 3 as well. These are characters you obtain through your questing journeys that will help you fight enemies. You can have multiple followers but only one will be present with you at any given time. They are not allowed to be used in co-op gameplay, though.

The auction house in Diablo 3 is pretty unique compared to other MMOs. There will be one auction place that allows players to trade game currency for game items but another is setup to allow players to sell valuable items for real money, not in game gold. This will setup a whole new venture for players who will more than likely attempt to create a full business selling Diablo 3 items within the game.

The has had a rough start with many players experiencing problems logging into their accounts or encountering errors which prohibit them from enjoying the game but these issues are being worked out by the Blizzard team one at a time. Patches come out like clockwork and so far the game has been taken very well by both old fans and new players alike. As it is it seems Diablo 3 is here to stay and make a huge dent in MMO history.

To get started off on the right foot you may want to try out a Diablo 3 guide. There are several available and they provide valuable information such as leveling tips, powerful builds for classes and other things that will help you progress quicker and easier. There are both official and unofficial guides to choose from that are available at local bookstores or online.
